GTT Experience
The Glucose Tolerance Test (GTT)
Most women, between 24 and 28 weeks into their pregnancy will require a Diabetes screening test called the “GTT” or “Glucose Tolerance Test”. This test is performed after fasting for a minimum of 8hrs and involves drinking a glucose drink, and having 3 blood tests over the course of 2hrs. If the test is positive for Gestational Diabetes, a repeat test will be performed 6 weeks after the baby arrives to ensure that the Diabetes has resolved. Historically, this test has been performed at pathology centres and not enjoyed by most but….women no longer need to dread their Glucose Tolerance Test!
